So they gave the Israelites a bad report about the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we went, in spying it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants. And all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature.
“Listening to poor advice can be catastrophic.”
– Bishop, W. F. Houston, Jr.
Beloved, have you ever given out or received poor advice? Was it too late when you recognized it was incorrect? When we don’t know what to do, we ask for help from people we believe in, people we feel that have experienced some things in life, and from people living a good life and have quality understanding. Listening to poor advice can be catastrophic. In our passage this morning, the Israelites sent twelve spies to explore the land of Canaan. Ten of the spies gave a terrible report, and it upset the hearts of the people. Panic spread, and they rebelled against God!!! What we see here is popular opinion doesn’t necessarily prove always to be true. As a result, the givers of antagonistic reports and the people were not permitted to see nor enter the promised land, and they died in the wilderness trying to get to Canaan.
Beloved, this is an excellent example of why it’s important to be conscientious when taking advice and giving it. It’s not a bad idea for us to ask God for discernment and wisdom before opening our mouths. God is omnipotent and knows what’s best for us. Amen? ✝️❤️😊
