“Don’t Be a Forgetful Hearer!!!”

7 24 2019 Don't Be a Forgetful Hearer
Praise the Lord Believers in the Christian faith.

Men, have you ever gone to work and rubbed your hand across your face, and realize that you’ve forgot to shave? It could’ve been because you were sidetracked by your wife’s questions or an early morning phone call, email, or inbox that required your attention. Ladies, have you ever been out in public and suddenly realized that you forgot to apply some of your makeup or left your glasses or work keys at home? Or have you been so tired at the end of the day went to bed and got up the next morning and realized you didn’t take your medicine before going to bed?
Beloved, those are common occurrences that illustrate what it means to hear God’s Word but fail to respond.

James 1:23 says, “If anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror.” The word “looks” doesn’t refer to an unpremeditated glimpse but to a vigilant, thoughtful, attentive stare. This person is taking a good, long healthy look at himself/herself. Hearers of the Word aren’t necessarily insincere or casual in their method to approaching Scripture. They can be serious students of the Word. The fact is, there are some seminary professors or Sunday School teachers that “are not” true believers. Some even write commentaries and other Bible reference works. Beloved, it’s how you respond to the Word – not your depth of study alone that’s the issue with God.

Despite the hearer’s persistent look, he failed to respond, and the image he saw in the mirror soon faded. That’s reminiscent of Jesus saying, “When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart” (*1). You see, the Word was sown but it had no fruit. The man looked into the mirror, but he made no corrections.

Beloved, perhaps there’s something God’s Word is instructing you to do that you’ve been putting off. If so, don’t delay any longer. Don’t be a forgetful hearer!!!

Beloved, life is very short. It comes and goes like an unannounced gust of wind. None of us know the hour or day when that gust of wind will be permitted to enter our room and blow out our earthly light. So today, reach out and touch someone and tell them you love them, BECAUSE TELLING THEM LATER JUST MIGHT BE TOO LATE.

I LOVE YOU ALL!!! Have a Great Wednesday. 😀
