    This Mornings Question is:
    Bishop Houston, I been taught that Christians can’t divorce. Can you tell me if a Christian can get a divorce?

    Answer: This is a great question. 😊 Thank you for asking.
     
    There are lots of scripture that speaks on marriage and divorce in the Old and New Testament of the Bible. First, I want it to be clear that it’s important to know that God despises divorce-He hates separation. (*1). And even though we can’t say it’s constantly right or wrong for a Christian to want to get a divorce, or for a divorced Christian to marry again, what we can say is divorce is clearly an extremely unwelcome event.
     
    I’m a product of divorced parents and I’ve been divorced, and I can tell you from experience that there’s pain that comes with fractured relationships and there’s a lot of tension divorce puts on family members—and it becomes more complicated when children have been born during the relationship. Everyone is affected by a divorce. The action of marriage realistically unites two people as one flesh. Divorce separates and ends the chapter and the book of this new life that was established.
     
    The Law of Moses tackled the issue of divorce head-on with detailed guidelines. But when Jesus came, He established a new directive that has an even higher requirement. We’re no longer under the law of Moses, we’re now governed by the law of love. Jesus says in John 13:34 (AMP) “I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too are to love one another.”
    Beloved this rule is for “EVERY” situation: Romans 13:8, and verse 10 (NLT)says: 8 Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law – and verses 10 says: Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law. Galatians 5:14 (AMP) says: For the whole Law [concerning human relationships] is fulfilled in one precept, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself [that is, you shall have an unselfish concern for others and do things for their benefit].” Galatians 6:2 (AMP) says: Carry one another burdens and in this way, you will fulfill the requirements of the law of Christ [that is, the law of Christian love]. James 2:8 (NCV) says 8 This royal law is found in the Scriptures: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” If you obey this law, you are doing right.
     
    So, when both partners enter the union of marriage makes every effort to walk in the love of God, their marriage will never fail. Now, if a believer is in a marriage in which this isn’t the case, he or she should seek the Lord for advice and permit the Holy Spirit to direct him or her in the direction of the truth (*3). Now I want to make it understood right that divorce is still not the best choice. The Lord may direct the person in several ways. Only he or she and God know if divorce is a choice.
     
    Beloved, divorce is certainly not God’s good quality. But it’s also not the conclusion of a successful Christian life. As believers, we can anticipate to be led by the Spirit of God and know that He neither brings condemnation against us (Romans 8:1 (NLT) – So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.) nor eliminates anyone from a unique place in His plan (Romans 11:29 (NLT) – For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.) It’s only through Him, the divorced man or woman can walk in victory and achieve everything God has called them to accomplish!!!
     
    Beloved, there’s no explicit biblical law for the Christian concerning divorce, other than they follow the law of love. The same law of love is valid when it comes to remarriage. The decision to remarry should be centered on the love of God and not on egotistical or materialistic desires. If a believer does get a divorce and he or she feels they’re genuinely prepared to move into a new union of marriage with another believer, he or she should do so with confidence that the Lord will bless that union. Bear In Mind, in Christ all things become new – 2 Corinthians 5:17 says: This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! Amen? Aaamen. ✝️❤️😊

  • “Never Doubt God’s Capability”

    Wednesday 6 19 2019 Let Us Pray Numbers 11 21 thru 23
    Praise the Lord Beloved. Happy Wednesday. 😀 

    What we find here in this morning’s Bible verse is the people complaining about not having meat to eat. Moses was very unhappy. God promised meat for a month along with some valuable lessons. But Moses just couldn’t comprehend it. To him it wasn’t possible. He looked out over the camp and couldn’t envision how God could do it. His response to God was an embellishment. You see, it was unquestionable that all the fish in the sea could have fed them. Even the flocks they herded could have fed them. But you know, when we get discouraged about something, at times, even the everyday situations look impossible.

    Beloved, God’s reply is worth remembering when you think He has promised more than can be delivered. Now allow me to ask you a few questions: has the omnipotent God lost some of His power? Can’t the One who created the world and everything in it provide anything at any time He chooses? Is there anything out of His reach? Is there anything too difficult for God to handle? Beloved, The Eternal One doesn’t work in a perimeter!!! He can do whatever He says He’ll do within His perfect character.

    This was a great lesson not just for Moses but for you and I also. Beloved, you and I have seen what God can do when we read these true stories. We have seen what He has done in the lives of people we know and in our own life. We have seen that God can do what we considered impossible. Never doubt God’s capability to do what He’s promised. He’s able!!! And you know it!!! 😀 – You’ve seen it. And you know what? You’ll see it again. 😀 Trust Him and come from behind your wall of doubt and step in front of the radiant light of faith. Amen? – Aaamen.

  • “Remembering the Sabbath”

    Praise the Lord Beloved. Happy Wednesday. 😀 I hope your day has started off with a smile. 😀

    You know the Israelites had weekly Sabbaths (a day of rest), but they also had new moon Sabbaths and other distinct Sabbath days related to their feasts. On those days, there were limitations as to how much they could do and how far they could go. All these were designed to have them take time to reflect on the God they served. They were to be still for a day to focus upon God. Beloved, this morning’s verse teaches that the reason for the Sabbath was to know who the LORD is and that He’s the One who makes us holy. It seems that they missed the whole point of the exercise and concentrated on the rules surrounding the Sabbath instead of the purpose. They thought that keeping the rules made them holy, when it’s clearly the LORD that makes them holy.

    Beloved, they had the illustration of Abraham who was acknowledged right with God by simply believing in God before he had done anything the Lord asked. They also had the illustration of the man recording this passage, “Moses”. He was a murderer and failed miserably when he tried to do it his own way. But when we know we can’t do it ourselves, that holiness is inaccessible by our efforts, we finally look to the LORD who makes us holy. Even though, at that time, they didn’t understand how, they simply needed to believe He would. Beloved, it’s the trust placed in God, not a comprehensive understanding of the method that makes men right with God, back then and now. 
    Beloved it’s God who makes us holy. His work will transform our lives when our trust is placed in Him.
    Amen? – Aaamen.

    Praise the Lord Beloved!!! 😀 I hope you had a great weekend.
     
    You know, when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, he led them into the desert on their way to the promised land. They quickly started to complain about the heat, not having enough food and water, and very bad terrain. After witnessing the plagues and the miracle of the parting of the Red Sea, one has to wonder how could they be complaining? We also see when Moses left them for a few days, they even built a golden calf and started to worship it!!!
     
    But aren’t we like that sometimes? 😀
     
    When we receive bad news or when the going gets tough, we start to wonder “Why is God doing this to me?” It’s easy to become discouraged and feel like you’ve been left to wander uselessly in the wilderness.
     
    Beloved, starting today and for the rest of the week, take some time and just sit and listen to His voice. The Lord will tell you what He wants from you and show you His plan as long as you’re listening to His voice. He knows exactly where you are right now. He has great plans for you. You don’t have to wonder while you’re wandering. He will show you what they are.

    You know Beloved, God takes His time developing us. You see, a small or slow beginning is just the introduction to a marvelous climax at the end!!! You’ll find that many of God’s work of genius were developed in small, slow incomprehensible conditions.Take for instance Moses. Moses was sent to the lost sheep of Israel. He was trained in leadership while shoveling sheep manure on the backside of the desert. Now granted his discipline was developed in the royal courts of Pharaoh’s house, but his disposition was shaped through failure and a desert kingdom with no one to lead but flies, gnats and sheep.
     
    Beloved, who would have thought, looking at Moses’ church of goat deacons and gnats for choir members, that later he would lead the greatest movement in the history of the Old Testament theology?
     
    So, Beloved, you or anyone else can’t tell what’s in you by looking at you. God is in the love, blessings and salvation business!!! God is establishing patience, character, and concentration in the school of “nothing seems to be happening.” Just because God promises to move in your life and anoints you to do a particular function doesn’t mean that your foundation will be immediately built, nor does it mean because you may have turned down ministry or slow to develop correct morals doesn’t mean God won’t create and develop a spiritual foundation that’s fit just for you. 😀

  • “Destroy the Messenger”

    Praise the Lord Beloved!!!

    According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, three of the most dangerous professions in the United States are those of a logger, an airline pilot and a fisherman.
     
    Now, of course, a logger deals with the tremendous weight and unpredictable nature of falling trees. A pilot faces the danger of working tens of thousands of feet above the ground. And a commercial fisherman constantly runs the risk of drowning.
     
    But I believe, in the ancient world the job of messenger might have been on the top of this list. Like most people, the ancient rulers hated getting bad news. However, unlike most other people, they had the power to do something about it, and most of the time they did, by executing the person who delivered the news!!! For example, when the Roman emperor Tiberius received an astrological prediction he didn’t like, he threw the messenger off a cliff.
     
    So actually, I don’t blame Moses for being reluctant to deliver the news to Pharaoh that the Israelites, his slave laborers, were hitting the road!!! God gave Moses an assignment no one would envy. And like most unenthusiastic recruits, Moses tried to talk his way out of the job. He pointed out that Pharaoh probably wouldn’t listen to him. And Moses reminded God that public speaking wasn’t his forte.
     
    But you know, Moses didn’t realize that the success of his mission didn’t depend on his skills. It depended on his faithfulness. Beloved, God could have sent anyone to deliver the message to Pharaoh, even one of Moses’ sheep. But God picked Moses instead. And he gave Moses the strength and skills he needed to complete the assignment.
     
    Beloved, this is important to remember when it comes to the things God calls us to do. Just as it was for Moses, it’s easy for us to reason and argue with God. “But God, I don’t have the skills to be a leader at church.” Or, “God, why don’t you send someone else? No one will listen to what I have to say.”
     
    Yet what we see as our own weaknesses shouldn’t stop us from carrying out our God-given assignments, because with our marching orders come God’s strength and assistance.

    Let me start out by asking you a question.

    Beloved, have you ever tried something, and got the great results you were looking for and then went out and tried to apply the same method for the same thing again and then get a different outcome?

    Well, in the Bible, this happened to Moses also. You see, they needed water and God told Moses to go and hit the rock. Moses hit the rock and water poured out without any restrictions. Then, there was another time they needed some water again, and God told Moses, “Speak to the rock.” Do you know what Moses did? He went over and hit the rock. You see, Moses thought, “Hitting the rock worked the last time I’ll hit it again and it will work this time also.” Well, it didn’t. You see, God had another strategy.

    Beloved, the point I’m trying to make here is, we have to stay ready in season and out of season so that we can make modifications to stay in tune with God’s blueprint. You can do the same thing the same way you did last time and get different results. It might not be something major, but just like Moses, maybe it’s just something small. Beloved, sometimes a small twist, or a little fine-tuning can make a major difference in the outcome.

    So today my friends, make sure you aren’t doing things just because it’s the way you always did it before. Instead, listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit of God inside you. Follow His lead and stay on one accord with the awesome blueprint He has for you!!!
