    This morning I will observe this morning’s CHOF Bible Fellowship Teaching: “Be Hesitant to Criticize Others”

    In today’s CHOF Bible Fellowship Sunday morning Bible  teaching we saw our Lord’s disapproval of a hypercritical or judgmental attitude. You know Beloved, it’s extraordinary how we can have a perfectionistic attitude toward others yet ignore the glaring faults we possess.

    The Pharisees of Jesus day were sarcastic in their attack on the sins of others while superficially unaware of their own faults. In seeing the pretense of these hypocrites, Jesus gave a series of rebukes one of them was in Matthew 23:25-26 Jesus Said: “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean”.

    Beloved, the Greek word hypocrite means “he that wears the mask”. Mask were used by actors in plays. The private lives of hypocrites don’t match the image they project for public view. Beloved, the Christian walk should lead to greater integrity and transparency. To avoid hypocrisy, it’s essential that we confess our sin and rely on the Spirit to help us live holy lives. Galatians 5:16 says: “But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts].”
    Ephesians 5:18: Do not get drunk with wine, for that is wickedness (corruption, stupidity), but be filled with the [Holy] Spirit and constantly guided by Him.)” And 1 John 1:9 says: “If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just [true to His own nature and promises] and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness [our wrongdoing, everything not in conformity with His will and purpose].”

    Romans 3:23 uncovers every one of us. We all fall short of the graciousness of God. That’s right, we all have said something dumb or stupid about someone, then find ourselves hypocritically doing or saying the same thing.

    Beloved, we all can be more gracious to others.

  • “Be Hesitant to Criticize Others”

    Our spiritual topic this morning is called, “Be Hesitant to Criticize Others” and this morning’s CHOF Bible Fellowship verse is Matthew 7:1.
    Matthew 7:1 reads this way: Do not judge, or you too will be judged.

    You know Beloved, at one time I was very quick to judge anyone I saw walking in the street while staring at a phone. I’ve said to myself on many occasions, “How could they be so unaware of the cars that are about to hit them?  Don’t they care about their own safety?

    But one day, my youngest sister sent me a text message as I was leaving a local Wal-Mart. As I was crossing the street to go to the parking lot – headed to my car, I was so engrossed in her text message, that I missed seeing a car at my right. Thankfully, the driver saw me and came to an abrupt stop. Beloved let me tell you, after I got in to my car, I felt ashamed. You see, all my self-righteous finger-pointing came back to haunt me. I had judged others, only to do the same thing myself.
    My hypocrisy is the kind of thinking that Jesus addressed in the Sermon on the Mount: Matthew 7:5 says: “First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Beloved, I had a huge “plank”, a huge blind spot through which I judged others with my own impaired judgment.
    Matthew 7: 2 Jesus also said: “For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged.” I recall the disgusted look on the driver’s face that day, after having to make an abrupt stop when I walked in front of his car, I’m reminded of the disgusted looks I gave others engrossed in their phones.
    Beloved, none of us is perfect. But sometimes I forget that in my rush to judge others. We’re all in need of God’s grace.

    Prayer:

    Dear Heavenly Father, please help me to be quicker to comfort or reassure, and slower to judge someone else.
    Amen!!! Amen!!!
